Tony graduated (MBBS) from Government Medical College, Kozhikode in 2002 and obtained his MD (Anatomy) from Delhi Universtiy at Maulana Azad Medical College in 2006.  During his Masters, he worked on the surgical anatomy and the histogenesis of the human ethmoid bone. He joined the department of Anatomy at AIIMS, New Delhi as a Senior Resident in 2007. He started his doctoral studies during the residency and worked on the pathogenesis of acute pancreatitis in an animal model. During his PhD, he availed the Sandwich Fellowship offered by the Government of France and worked at INSERM Unit 624 at Marseille on knock-out mice to study the effect of acute pancreatitis on their miRNome. He completed his PhD in 2013 and worked for 7 months at the department of Anatomy at Vardhman Mahavir Medical College, New Delhi as an Assistant Professor. He joined AIIMS as an Assistant Professor in 2014.

He is continuing his work on the pathogenesis of acute pancreatitis. Now, he and his team have also established two surgical models of acute pancreatitis in rats at the Institute. Further, now he is also working on two models of chronic pancreatitis. His work includes the role of autophagy, cell death and inflammation in the pathogenesis of acute pancreatitis.

He is also interested in teaching various aspects of anatomy and has a special interest in history, especially that of medical education. He is also a resource person for Interpersonal Communication Skills and Personality Development in the Health Sector.
